Hundreds of American transgender prisoners in federal custody are now facing uncertainty and fear following a sweeping executive order from President Donald Trump, which mandates that they be transferred to male facilities.

DailyMail reports that the decision has sparked significant concern among legal representatives, who warn that the transgender inmates could face severe risks upon relocation.

Attorneys are working urgently to challenge the order, fearing for the safety of transgender individuals, who they believe will be placed in danger when placed among vi%lent male prisoners.

One such lawyer, Meltzer-Cohen, represents Donna Langan, a transgender woman serving a life sentence for bank robbery. Langan, who underwent gender transition while incarcerated, is now at risk of being moved to a male prison, which her lawyer predicts could lead to vi%lence and “a bl%%dbath.”

The executive order issued by President Trump asserts that only two sexes—male and female—will be recognized by the government, with all facilities now segregated based on s3x rather than gender identity.

This decision also impacts the designation of spaces like shelters and prisons, and includes a cessation of federal funding for transgender-specific transition services.

In Massachusetts, public defenders were notified by a transgender inmate’s family that she had been moved to a men’s prison, an action that caused her significant distress.

The policy change marks a stark reversal from the protections previously provided under the Obama and Biden administrations, now shifting the focus from “gender” to “s3x” in federal legal contexts. This overhaul of transgender rights protections includes a roll-back of funding and support for gender-related services in federal institutions.
