Gov Uzodinma: “No doubt Nigerians will vote for APC again in 2023”

Imo state Governor Hope Uzodinma earlier today signed into law a bill repealing pensions, gratuities for former governors, former deputy governors, former speakers and deputy speakers in the state.

The executive bill was presented by the Majority Leader of the House, Uche Ogbuagu and given accelerated hearing and subsequently passed into law by the the State House of Assembly on Thursday.

In an interview, the Majority Leader said the bill would go a long way in saving cost for the State.

According to him, the State loses about N1.3bn annually to offset the bills, a sum he described as humongous enough to pay workers’ salary.

He applauded the Governor, Hope Uzodinma for assenting to the bill, adding that Imo State will soon enjoy the benefits derivable from the law.

Uche Ogbuagu is the member representing Ikeduru State Constituency in the Imo House of Assembly.

See some reactions to the signing of the bill into law;

@IsuphJt: buhari please take a Cue from Imo State & also sign an Executive Order(whilst sending a Bill to Nass) stopping the pensions & gratuities of past Prez, SP, Speakers et al whom are huge burden on FG resources. Do this, reduce recurrent expenditures & save jobs..

@AvalonGroove: This is the time for @MBuhari and @ProfOsinbajo to sign similar bill at Federal levels and encourage all the state Governors to do the same. This will save lots of money being presently wasted on these guys and be re- channeled to critical areas of the economy.

@yinkanubi: I remember saying in May 2019 that the first order of business of State Assemblies should be to repeal these obnoxious #PensionForLife laws for ex Governors and Dep Governors. Zamfara has done it, now Imo has joined. Which State is next?

@Kennydurojaiye7: I dont know ur antecedent mr Governor, but What so ever it maybe ,God bless you ,its pure day light robbery for ex Gov an others to be collecting pension.

@jidecole20: Good move, I have always thought that if there should be pension for ex Governor’s, their pension should be the same as that of a Permanent Secretary in the state
