Two suspected traffickers, Mary Ishmael, 68, and 23-year-old Chinedu Nwachukwu, have been arrested for allegedly killing a new mother and selling her baby for N350,000 in Igwuruta, Rivers State.

Nwachukwu was arrested by men of 48 PMF who were on stop-and-search duties at Omerelu Nipping Point near Owerri, Imo State, with the five months old baby and could not explain how he came about.

He later confessed to have stolen the baby after killing the mother and pushing the body in a pit in an uncompleted building around Igwuruta.

The suspects are also responsible for the disappearance of a single nursing mother, Chinonye Queen Uzoma, and her three months old daughter, who have been declared missing for several weeks now.

According to the police, Nwachukwu confessed that he killed Uzoma, disposed her body in a forest and sold her baby to Ishmael, for the sum of N250,000.

The suspect said Ishmael sends him to snatch the babies. After killing the first woman, I sold her baby to this woman for N250,000 and she resold the baby to somebody in Benin for N350,000.
