Davido’s N250m: Ogun Oba, Eselu seeks funds for out-of-school children

Oba Akintunde, the Eselu of Iselu, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, has called on philanthropists and donors to raise money so as to reduce the increasing number of out-of-school children in the South-West.

Oba Akniyemi said this while reacting to David Adeleke’s decision to gift the N250million he raised through public donations to orphanages, in commemoration of his birthday.

OsmekNews gathered that, the first-class Oba commended “the kind gesture of Davido towards the downtrodden in the Nigerian society.”

While thanking those who donated money to the Skelewu crooner, the traditional ruler maintained that the step he took had “really elevated the traditional families in the South Western part of Nigeria because a Prince from Osun State (Davido) came up with an unprecedented initiative to better the lives of the downtrodden.”

However, Oba Akinyemi admonished the donors to continuously join hands with Davido so as to address the problem of indigent parents, whose children could not have access to formal education.

“I also want to thank all the philanthropists who donated millions of naira to Davido to support him in the execution of his good plan of helping the less privileged in Nigeria. Specifically, I want to appreciate the donors like Oba Saheed Elegushi, Chief Femi Otedola, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chief Mike Adenuga, Obi Cubana, Hon. Ibrahim Egungbohun Dende, E-money and a host of others. God will continue to bless all of you for the kindest donations to Davido.

“Let me admonish Davido and his co-philanthropists not to make this step a one-off benefit. They should continue to join hands with Davido periodically to raise money which could also be used to take thousands of out-of-school children in the South West from the streets and return them to school for us to have a better society.

“For Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s legacy in education to be sustained, Davido should endeavour to sustain this good initiative he has started,” the letter read partly

The Oba wished Davido a wonderful birthday, praying that “the Almighty God will grant you the grace to celebrate many more birthdays in life,” he said.
