Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, has joined the George Floyd protest as he revealed a message calling for “justice” for the death of the black American, after scoring on Sunday.

Mr Floyd,  unarmed black man who died after a Minneapolis police officer kneeled on his neck for more than eight minutes as he told the police men “I can’t breathe”.

Floyd’s death has sparked up mass protests across the US, and beyond with governors in several states calling in National Guard troops in an attempt to maintain order.

Sancho put Dortmund 2-0 up 57 minutes into their Bundesliga match against Paderborn, before removing his jersey to reveal an undershirt with a message reading “justice for George Floyd”.

He also took to his Instagram page to write about the protest.

He wrote;

“Solid performance from the team!!

“Delighted to get my first career hat trick, a bittersweet moment personally as there are more important things going on in the world today that we must address and help make a change.

“We shouldn’t fear speaking out for what’s right, we have to come together as one & fight for justice. We are stronger together! #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd”

Dortmund defender Achraf Hakimi also removed his shirt after scoring to reveal the same message as Sancho.

See some reactions below;

@NutmegRadio: Black players in Euro leagues often express solidarity w victims of police violence or racism while playing or after scoring. This weekend in Germany: Weston McKennie (USA), Marcus Thuram (France), Jadon Sancho (England). It’d be a powerful statement if white players joined them.

@rogbennett: Incredible. English phenomenon Jadon Sancho rips off his shirt after scoring for Dortmund and pays tribute to George Floyd with this handwritten message. A London-born star playing in Germany but his mind is on the tragedy in Minnesota.

@PatrickTimmons1: Jadon Sancho becomes the latest player to use his platform to make a point. A class act.

@piersmorgan: So @Sanchooo10 scored today for Dortmund, unveiled a ‘Justice for George Floyd’ T-shirt.. and got booked.
I hope every one of his teammates wears one in the next game. Down pointing backhand index
