An activist, Kenechukwu Okeke, has come under fire for dragging 50 persons before a Chief Magistrate’s court in Abuja over their alleged roles in the #EndSARS protests that took place last month.
Okeke alleged that during the riot, his properties were destroyed and the defendants who promoted the #EndSARS protests must be brought to justice.
The defendants in the suit include Senior Pastor, Daystar Christian Centre, Pastor Sam Adeyemi; activist, Aisha Yesufu; ex-Super Eagles legend, Kanu Nwankwo; a former Director-General, Bureau for Public Sector Reform, Dr Joe Abah; journalist, Kiki Mordi, and actors, Yul Edochie and Uche Jombo.
Musician Damini Ogulu aka Burna Boy, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido, Folarin Falana popularly known as Falz; and social media comedians, Debo Adebayo aka Mr Macaroni, and Maryam Akpaokagi aka Taoma.
Other musicians sued include Peter and Paul Okoye, Innocent Idibia aka Tuface, Bankole Wellington popularly known as Banky W, Tiwa Savage, Michael Ajereh aka Don Jazzy and Yemi Alade.
The matter has generated heated controversy with some of the defendants lambasting Okeke on Twitter for filing a “frivolous” suit.
@sam_adeyemi tweeted, “Who sent this guy to file this frivolous law suit?”
@OgbeniDipo wrote, “Not only does that (Okeke) want to sue Aisha Yesufu, Falz, Banky W and others, he also wants to sue Pastor Sam Adeyemi.”
@OgoOn80 corroborated Dipo’s stand, “But wait, why will Sam Adeyemi be on this list? Touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm.”
On his part, @aproko_doctor described Okeke as a clown. “I feel nothing short of pity for you, pity because you’re so blind to common sense. Blind to truth. Once again, you’re a clown,” he tweeted.
“If you’re going to name me in a court process, do it properly. My full name is Ayodele Olorunfunmi Sogunro,” @ayosogunro kicked.
@Mochievous, however, advised Okeke to “consider joining the incredible lawyers who are volunteering pro bono to help get peaceful protesters illegally detained out. Might be a better use of your time.”
