Female teenage suicide bomber kills 3 in Borno

Three people were killed after a female teenage girl suspected to be a suicide bomber detonated explosives in a crowd in in the town of Konduga in Borno state.

“We evacuated three dead bodies and two people who were seriously injured from the scene,” an aid worker, Abubakar Mohammed, told AFP.”

An anti-jihadist militia leader, Ibrahim Liman, who corroborated the death toll, said the girl blew herself up while among a group of men at a meeting place close to the local chief’s home.

Konduga, which is located about 38 kilometres from the regional capital Maiduguri, and other nearby villages have been regularly attacked by Islamist militant group Boko Haram.

The militants are suspected to sneak into the town from the group’s hideout in the nearby Sambisa Forest.

The group, which has waged a war for more than a decade in an attempt to establish a caliphate, usually hits easy civilian targets such as mosques, markets and bus stations, often using young women as bombers.

Last June, a triple suicide attack outside a hall in Konduga where football fans were watching a match on TV killed at least 30 people
