Hushpuppi hires ex-government lawyer as defence counsel

The trial of Nigerian Instagram celebrity, Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi, which was scheduled to commence this month, has been suspended as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.
This was contained in the orders of Otis Wright, a district judge in California and released on September 23.
Hushpuppi is being tried on a four-count charge of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, engaging in monetary transactions in property derived from specified unlawful activity, money laundering conspiracies and international money laundering.
His case was initially fixed for October 13, after he earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges pressed against.
The trial will now continue on May 4, 2021.
Hushpuppi was on June 10 arrested alongside some of his associates in Dubai by a combined team of Dubai police and operatives of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI.
