Five key takeaways from Kamala Harris’s DNC speech

United States Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign on Thursday said she would debate her Republican rival Donald Trump twice, while their running mates would do so once, seeking to draw a line under weeks of election brinkmanship.

The two camps had come to terms with one presidential debate on September 10 and a vice presidential face-off on October 1; however, the Trump campaign had been pushing for two further presidential debates in September and an extra VP encounter.

The Harris campaign said in a statement: “The debate about debates is over. Donald Trump’s campaign accepted our proposal for three debates—two presidential and a vice presidential debate.

“Assuming Donald Trump actually shows up on September 10, Harris running mate Tim Walz would debate Trump’s VP pick, J.D. Vance, on October 1, and then there would be another Trump-Harris face-off later in October.”

However, the Trump campaign did not immediately respond to the statement.
