The Lagos judiciary panel has awarded N10 million to two victim of police brutality as compensations.

Recall that Lagos State Judicial Panel of Restitution and Inquiry was set up by the government to investigate cases of police brutality involving members of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

The petition involving Mrs. Kudirat Adebayo Abayomi, who was killed by a police stray bullet in April 2017, the panel ordered the prosecution of the erring police officers as the sum of N10 million was awarded to the family of the deceased.

Also, the children of the victim was awarded scholarship and a letter of apology was officially given to the family of the deceased by the police.

Hannah Olugbode, is a 35-year-old hairdresser, who has been on crutches after her left leg was shattered by a stray bullet fired by some SARS officers around the Ijeshatedo area of Lagos was also awarded N10 million in her petition.

The money awarded to her was for her treatment and anxiety she suffered due to the incident.

Other cases brought before the panel are yet to be compensated as the two victims are the first persons to be compensated bu the the Lagos state government.

This came few weeks after the Chairman of the panel, Justice Doris Okuwobi, allowed the reopening of the Lekki Toll Gate by the Concession Company (LCC) Ltd.
