Brigadier General Ahmed Ibrahim. T. Taiwo, commander 81 Military intelligence Brigade of the Nigerian Army has said that soldiers came to the scene of the Lekki toll gate fracas after the men of the Nigerian police were overran by hoodlums.
He disclosed this today at the Lagos Judicial Panel of Enquiry and Restitution for Victims of SARS related abuses and other matters. He also showed a video of hoodlums making away with arms and ammunition after the Orile Iganmu Police station, Ijora was burnt down by the hoodlums.
He said that no soldier or security agents would watch while people were being killed and properties were burnt down. He said that this was the situation when Gov. Sanwo-Olu imposed the 24 hours curfew and appealed to the military to intervene.
He noted that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s made the correct decision to invite the army when violence broke out on that day. Recall, the army had vehemently denied shooting at or killing any of the protesting youths and told the panel that it was ready to show videos capturing its activities at the tollgate on the night of 20 October.
