Liverpool’s 68-game unbeaten home run has been ended in dramatic fashion by Burnley, and the defending champions could be 7th on the table by the next time they play.
Liverpool’s 68-game unbeaten run in the Premier League at Anfield came to a stunning end as Ashley Barnes’s late penalty earned struggling Burnley a 1-0 win on Thursday.
The Reds took a step backwards in the title race as, 24 hours after Manchester City and Manchester United had taken turns winning to top the Premier League.
Things don’t seem to be going well for Kloop’s men at the moment, as have now failed to win in five consecutive league games, they have not even scored in their last four league games. It is that bad for last season’s champions.
Burnley began the game just one place above the relegation zone, but gave their chances of beating the drop a huge boost when Barnes was tripped by Alisson Becker seven minutes from time and then beat the Brazilian from the spot.
It was Liverpool’s first home Premier League defeat since April 23, 2017, when they lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace.
Only Chelsea’s run of 86 league games of not losing at Stamford Bridge, which ran to October 2008, was longer.
