Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, has proposed extending the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme from one year to two years.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the new NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, in Abuja, the Minister suggested expanding the NYSC’s Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to help corps members become job creators.

He also commended the NYSC for its digital registration process, which has curbed certificate fr@ud involving foreign-trained graduates within West Africa.

Additionally, Dr. Alausa addressed the unresolved issue of OND part-time graduates who obtained full-time HNDs but were previously exempted from national service.

In response, Brigadier General Nafiu praised the Minister’s achievements in the education sector and called for the creation of a database for Nigerian youths studying abroad.
