Israel’s legislature has voted to end the leadership of Benjamin Netanyahu after 12 years as Prime Minister.

The parliament approved a coalition government that has promised to reunite the nation.

Naftali Bennett was sworn in as Prime Minister. He is the head of an ultranationalist party that controls six seats in the 120-seat Knesset.

The lawmakers backed the new coalition government by a slim margin of 60 votes to 59.

Netanyahu was country’s longest-serving leader. Under him, Israel deepened ties with the United States.

Former President Donald Trump, on December 6, 2017, announced America’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Middle Eastern country.
