Nigerian Customs intercept $8 million cash at the Lagos airport

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, HameedAli, on Tuesday disclosed that the service has intercepted $8,065,615 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos State.

Addressing a press conference in Lagos, the C-G disclosed that the cash was intercepted in a car before getting loaded into an aircraft. He added that the money was wrapped in large brown envelopes.

According to him, the vehicle which carried the cash belongs to the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company, NAHCO, adding that the driver and a suspect have been arrested.

Mr Ali said: “From the day we seized this money, no bank has come to claim ownership. But our investigation will reveal the mystery behind the owners.”
