Nine Nigerians arrested for assaulting policemen in Indonesia

Eleven foreigners, including nine Nigerians, have been arrested by the Jakarta Police, Indonesia, for allegedly attacking five of its officers during a raid at an apartment building in Cengkareng, West Jakarta.

According to reports, operatives of the Jakarta Police cybercrime unit led by one Comr. Khaerudin, raided an apartment in the Green Park View complex to arrest a suspected internet fraudster.

The raid caught the attention of residents of other units who thought the policemen were immigration officers conducting a raid on foreigners. They allegedly descended on them and assaulted them.

The head of the criminal investigation unit of the West Jakarta Police, Comr. Teuku Arsya Khadafi, in a statement on Sunday, said around 60 foreigners had assaulted the police officers together.

The arrestees having been entrusted to immigration authorities, and according to the Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus, the police will take legal actions against them.

“The police report has been made; the process is ongoing. For the time being, [the case] is still being studied by the immigration authorities with regard to their permits in Indonesia,” he said.
