A yet-to-be-identified man has died in Lagos after irate Okada riders (motorcyclists) attacked some operatives of the Lagos State Task Force on “illegal duty”.

A viral video of the victim being run over by some commercial motorcyclists had drawn condemnation on social media.

Reacting to the video on Saturday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the two operatives had gone on the illegal duty with some civilians.

But unfortunately, they came under attack from the Okada riders, leading to the death of one of the civilians.

“Two police officers attached to the Lagos State Taskforce on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, went on illegal duty, taking some civilians with them to shore up their number,” Hundeyin wrote on his X handle.

“They came under attack from motorcycle riders, resulting in the death of one of the civilians.”

According to him, the police officers have been arrested and currently in detention.

The police spokesperson informed that investigations have commenced on the matter.

“While disciplinary actions have commenced on the already detained police officers, and a search is on for their civilian accomplices, investigations have commenced to identify, arrest, and prosecute the perpetrators of this dastardly act,” Hundeyin added.
