The 12 governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have distanced themselves from a new coalition of opposition figures spearheaded by the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Meeting in Ibadan on Monday under the PDP Governors Forum led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, the governors rejected the emerging political alliance involving Atiku, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
In a move that further deepens internal party tensions, the governors also declared support for Deputy National Secretary Setonji Koshoedo as acting National Secretary, sidelining both Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye, who are currently embroiled in a leadership tussle over the position.
