Stanley Osifo Reacts to Amendment of Electoral act by National Assembly

Osifo Stanley, Former Presidential Aspirant of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has reacted to the amendment of sections of the electoral laws which reflects the current realities in the Country.

Mr Osifo  also commended the outcome of the amendment of electoral act and expressed his delight for the exercise.

He said;

‘‘The amendment of sections of the electoral act to reflect current realities and deepen the nation’s democratic process is highly welcome and commendable.

Direct primaries will make the lowest rung of the political hierarchy to fully get involved in making better choice of candidates to represent them in their Ward, Constituencies, Local Government Areas, Districts, States and Country. It will to a large extent bring political actions and decisions to the local level. Unlike the situation where very few individual impose candidates on the people and deny them of contributing to who represents or lead them. It will help to eradicate or reduce voter apathy as witnessed in the past when people feel ostracized from party electioneering process. It will drive democratic principles which is Government of the People, by the people and for the people by direct participation in party elections.

E-transmission of election results have been deployed in the conduct of some staggered elections such as Edo, Ondo, Kaduna. It has proved to be very effective and timely. It’s inclusion in the proposed bill is apt and relevant.

Both chambers of the legislative arm should be commended for the electoral amendments considered. More so, for listening to calls by Nigerians for E-transmission decisions to be domiciled in Electoral Commission in conduct of all elections.”
