The Honourable Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, commissioned the Orbit Galvanising Steel Industries Ltd and Orbit Fabrication Works Ltd in Lagos State — a major milestone by the African Industries Group (AIG).

The commissioning marks a key highlight of the Minister’s working visit to Lagos, where he toured private steel facilities and met with key players in the industry, as part of FG’s push to boost private sector-led growth in the steel sector.

Prince Audu described the project as a landmark achievement in galvanised and fabricated steel production, applauding AIG for its commitment to investing in Nigeria’s industrial future.

He emphasized that the new plant reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR’s Renewed Hope Agenda and dedication to creating an enabling environment for investors, with a vision to revive the entire steel sector, including the long-stalled Ajaokuta Steel Plant.

Built at a cost of $80 million, the plant has the capacity to produce 50,000 metric tonnes of fabricated towers annually — contributing to a national combined output of 200,000 metric tonnes. It is set to create thousands of jobs, manufacture for local and export markets, and generate $100 million in annual turnover when fully operational.

During his visit to the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, the Minister highlighted the importance of collaboration between the Federal Ministry and Lagos State, especially as over 60% of Nigeria’s private steel investors operate in the Lagos-Ogun industrial corridor.

The Lagos State Government expressed full support for the Federal Government’s agenda to industrialize Nigeria, pledging to work closely with the Ministry of Steel Development.
