The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has announced the commencement of Ramadan in Nigeria.

This followed the Sultan of Sokoto confirming the sighting of moon to commence the Ramadan season.

This was disclosed by the Sultane in a post on X which reads: “The Sultanate has confirmed a single sighting claim and His Eminence the Sultan will soon make an announcement. Ramadan Mubarak.”

This is coming when Saudi Arabia announced the sighting of the crescent moon signifying the beginning of the Holy month of Ramadan.

The moon was spotted on Sunday evening.

This means March 10 is the last day of the month of Sha’ban and the holy month will begin on Monday, March 11.

Ramadan, determined by the lunar Islamic calendar in which months span either 29 or 30 days, commences and concludes based on the sighting of the crescent moon.
