In a statement signed by the publicity secretary of the group, otherwise known as BCS Igbo Nation, Archbishop Nnanna Mong, it stressed that this is the time for all the Igbos to come together as a nation to development Nigeria.
According to him, the Igbos are well-endowed with divine blessings and resources to galvanize other parts of the country to a greater nation.
They said the election of Dr John Azuta Mbata is a unifying factor that will eventually return all the Igbo speaking states, including Rivers people to their roots.
He said the recognition of these states will help in strengthening the bonds and eliminate the discrimination and hatred caused by the Civil War.
According to the clergyman, the emergence of Dr Mbata was a pointer that the Rivers people have started to accept the fact that they are Igbos, especially the Ikwerres, where he himself, hails.
He stressed that the unity of the Ohaneze Ndigbo will enhance the issues of returning Nigeria to Regional Government structure, which he said appears to be ganining momentum.
According to the Archbishop, “The Yorubas are seriously organising themselves to key into the regional government structure, which the present administration of President Bola Tinubu is seriously working out its modalities.”
Similarly, a lecturer at University of Cross River and former special adviser to ex-Governor Ben Ayade on Non-Indigenes Affairs, Nwabueze Ugoji called on the new leadership to fulfill its pledges to work assiduously to protect and promote Igbo interests and work towards the unity of this country by eliminating divisive tendencies such as the continuous detention of Nnamdi Kanu.
He expressed happiness that the new leadership will work with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to effect the huge expectation.
“Igbos across the globe look forward to the early fulfillment of these pledges, including the restoration of Eastern Coastal Ports and dredging of the Azumini River. These are huge promises that can not be taken for granted.
“For Igbos in diaspora like Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo in Cross River State currently finding its footing having recently lost its president we expect that there will be blessings from the over flow of the fulfillment of these promises.
“We are more concerned with the existence and support of the indivisible and monolithic entity of one Nigeria.
