Oba Ayinde Odetola, the Olu of Agobo village in Ogun state, and four of his aides have been reportedly k!lled by unknown g#nmen, who invaded the town on Monday, January 24.
The bodies of the monarch and his aides were also reportedly b#rnt to a$hes by the hoodlums.
It was gathered that Oba Odetola and his aides were a$sassinated and b#rnt in his car as soon as they entered the town around 11:00 a.m.
According to Vanguard, trouble started when the late Oba was installed by the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Michael Gbadebo, in the village believed to be under the authority of Owu kingdom. It was learnt that residents of the village, who are mostly of Owu extraction, rejected his installation, being an Ake person.
Confirming the incident, one of the late monarch’s sisters, Chief (Mrs) Adenike Akintade said, “I had just been discharged from hospital early this morning, only to start mourning the br#tal as#as#ination of my brother.
Kabiesi called me on Saturday, urging me to reduce my activities, saying stress could contribute to my illness. Oba Odetola lost his younger brother to this imbroglio some months ago; the young man was but#hered by the so-called hoodlums. Today, Kabiyesi is no more, what a world.”
The police spokesperson in Ogun State, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, but denied that four of the monarch’s aides were k!lled.
He said after k!lling the traditional ruler, the perpetrators b#rnt the monarch with his car.
