No fewer than 10 people lost their lives in a tragic multiple-vehicle accident on Saturday evening at the Tipper Garage junction along the Dutse-Bwari road in Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The crash involved a heavy-duty truck and several commercial tricycles. Eyewitnesses said the truck, reportedly suffering brake failure, lost control and r@mmed into tricycles parked at the bus stop, cr¥shing passengers and leaving a trail of destr¥ction.
“The trailer sped past us and began crashing into vehicles,” said Sarah Audu, who witnessed the incident. “It couldn’t stop. It hit the tricycles and k+lled some passengers instantly.”
Scenes of the cr@sh were described as horrifying, with mangled tricycles, shattered glass, and b+ood-stained items scattered across the road.
Emergency officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) quickly arrived to assist in rescue operations, evacuating the inj¥red to hospitals in Gwarinpa and Kubwa.
An FRSC official confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the crash. Residents have raised concerns about the Tipper Garage junction, which has been the site of several previous accidents due to its poor traffic management and disorganized layout.
