Twitter has just deleted a tweet by Nigerian president, Muhammad Buhari, which many have said was a threat of war to a particular region of the country.
In recent times, unknown gunmen have attacked various security facilities across the south eastern region of Nigeria, a region which many have been requesting a referendum to split from the west African nation.
The attacks have been amidst other security challenges which includes farmers and herders crisis, and also a high spate of kidnappings and other violent crimes.
In a statement released yesterday, the President addressed the security challenges, as he warned that those formenting trouble would be treated in the language they understand. The president said;
Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.
The statement was criticized by many, as people argued that the president was only threatening the region with violence, as against his response to violent crimes in the northern region of the country.
Twitter has now taken action and deleted the tweet, though no further reason was given by the social media giant.
