Following reports suggesting a potential shutdown of its services in Nigeria, Meta has clarified its stance through formal statements issued by its spokespersons.

Regarding the NDPC ruling, Meta maintains that Facebook and Instagram already provide users in Nigeria with robust privacy tools and settings. “We disagree with the NDPC’s decision… and have appealed,” a Meta spokesperson stated, reaffirming the company’s commitment to user privacy.

On the FCCPC directive concerning WhatsApp, the platform emphasized its reliance on Meta’s infrastructure to function globally and securely. A WhatsApp spokesperson noted, “The FCCPC order contains multiple inaccuracies… and we are urgently applying to stay the order and appeal the Tribunal’s decision to avoid any impact to users.”

Meta has not announced any immediate plans to shut down operations but is actively challenging the rulings through legal channels.
