The Action Alliance (AA) said it withdrew its petition challenging the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja for the sake of the country’s unity.

The Chairman of the party, Adekunle Rufai Omo-Aje, who disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Monday, said Action Alliance (AA) would not want to be the reason Nigeria is thrown into another horrific experience similar to the aftermath of the June 12, 1993, presidential election won by the late Chief MKO Abiola of Southwest extraction.

WITHIN NIGERIA had reported that the Action Alliance (AA) withdrew its petition challenging Tinubu’s victory at the pre-hearing meeting of the presidential election tribunal on Monday.

Rufai Omo-Aje avowed that, as active democrats in the democratic experiment, the party’s members refused to be used by proponents of an interim government to achieve their agenda of taking over the government through the back door.

He further explained: “Our party believes in the three key principles of a healthy democracy, which are equity, fairness, and justice.”

The agitations around the country today, he asserted, arose because parts or all of these key principles have been relegated, stressing that the party believed it was not fair to abort the ascendancy of a southerner to the most exalted seat and position, especially after a northerner has occupied the seat for eight years.
