“She’s Now Hadizah” — Juma Jux Reveals as He Speaks on Priscilla’s Conversion to Islam and Why They Skipped Church Wedding

Tanzanian singer Juma Jux has revealintimate details about his marriage to Nigerian partner Priscilla, now known as Hadizah Mkambala, following her conversion from Christianity to Islam.

In a recent interview, Jux shared that their official union was through a Nikkah, the Islamic marriage rite, after Priscilla embraced Islam. “She changed her religion. She is now officially known as Hadizah,” he said, confirming that the Islamic ceremony marked the beginning of their life as husband and wife.

However, given Priscilla’s Christian background, Jux noted that her mother—deeply rooted in her Christian faith—requested a symbolic blessing. “Her mother said, ‘It’s okay that the marriage was already officiated and that you are Muslim, but as a parent, I want to bless the marriage in my own way.’” To honor this, they held a simple outdoor event in Nigeria where a pastor offered prayers. Jux clarified it wasn’t a church wedding: “It was just a blessing.”

Interestingly, when the pastor prayed, he used language typically heard at Christian wedding ceremonies. “It sounded like the usual church vows, even though we had already done the Nikkah,” Jux said, noting that they temporarily removed their rings so they could be prayed over and blessed.

When asked if it was difficult convincing Hadizah to convert, Jux admitted it wasn’t easy. “Yes, it was a little hard. I had to learn from religious scholars how to approach her gently.” He emphasized the need for patience, saying Hadizah is still learning and adapting gradually.

Jux also addressed potential family concerns, stating, “My family was already aware. Our official marriage was the Nikkah.”

Their religious ceremony took place on February 7, which now marks their anniversary. A civil wedding followed to legalize the union and secure residency documents for Hadizah in Tanzania.
