The report has it that the unverified news, which has been making rounds online, claims that the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ebok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has officially appointed Samuel Osoruchi Nwanosike as the new head of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA).
This latest speculation comes months after a similar announcement regarding Dr. Nwanosike’s appointment surfaced earlier in the year. That report was officially refuted by the Rivers State Government, which at the time, labelled it a “fake announcement” and warned the public against “fake news peddlers.” The office of the Secretary to the Rivers State Government has not released any official statement to substantiate these new claims, and sources have urged residents to disregard them unless they are made through official government channels.
The rumour comes at a time of heightened public concern over the state of sanitation in Port Harcourt. The report noted that the city, once known as the “Garden City,” is currently grappling with a severe waste management crisis. Indiscriminate dumping of refuse, overflowing dumpsites, and the poor evacuation of waste have become a persistent problem, posing significant health and environmental risks to residents. In light of these challenges, any potential appointment to lead RIWAMA would be met with intense public scrutiny and a sense of urgency.
