Johnathan: He Asked People In PDP That Approach Him To Go Back And Fix The Wike Problem - Sambo

According to reports, former President Goodluck Jonathan has asked members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who approach him about a possible presidential run in 2027 to first resolve the internal crisis caused by Nyesom Wike’s influence in the party.

Arise News Director of News and Politics Editor, Sumner Sambo, made this known in an interview while speaking about Jonathan’s possible chances in joining the 2027 presidential race under the PDP.

He noted that while the party previously struggled with what was described as an “Atiku problem,” following Atiku Abubakar’s exit, the main challenge now revolves around Wike, who continues to align with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu.

Sambo highlighted that decisive actions are expected soon, including the report of the Tom Ikimi-led National Disciplinary Committee, which is to be presented at the next National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

The report is anticipated to recommend disciplinary measures against members who allegedly betrayed the PDP during the 2023 elections.

According to Sambo, the NEC meeting itself carries significant weight, as the party’s National Secretary reportedly signed the letter to INEC authorizing the NEC meeting but refused to sign the approval for the National Convention.

He pointed out that this move cast uncertainty over the convention, which is central to PDP’s plans. He noted that if the National Secretary and Chairman fail to jointly sign the convention, it could validate Wike’s recent remarks insisting that the National Convention will not take place.
