The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accused the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Umar Damagum, of betrayal, as reported by Daily Post on Friday, September 19, 2025.
Wike said he worked hard to keep Damagum in office as party chairman.
He explained that he gave him support and even helped him with legal matters when his position was threatened.
According to him, Damagum would have lost his seat if not for his efforts.
The minister claimed that despite his support, Damagum has now turned against him.
He suggested that the PDP chairman now sees him as an enemy.
Wike said Damagum would harm him if given the chance.
He expressed disappointment that someone he defended could now oppose him.
The crisis within the PDP has been deepening in recent months.
Many party members accuse Wike of working against the PDP during the last elections.
He has also been linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, because of his ministerial role in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.
Former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, recently called for tough action against Wike and his allies.
He urged the Damagum-led National Working Committee, NWC, to expel Wike, former Benue governor Samuel Ortom, and former Abia governor Okezie Ikpeazu from the PDP.
Lamido said no party should allow members to undermine it while openly supporting its rival.
This call has fueled more divisions inside the opposition party.
Some members agree with Lamido that the PDP must show strength to survive.
Others argue that punishing Wike and his group will only deepen the cracks and weaken the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wike, however, has maintained that he has done nothing wrong.
He insists he only tells the truth about the party’s problems.
The minister said he will not be silenced by threats or internal fights.
“I did everything for him, I had his lawyers, and that’s what sustained Damagum to be there.
But who is Damagum’s enemy now? It is me. If there is one person Damagum wants to be killed, it is me,” he said.
