Minister Uche Nnaji Confesses: ‘UNN Never Issued Me Degree Certificate’
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has denied issuing a degree to Minister of Science and Technology Uche Nnaji, saying he never completed his studies.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Simon Ortuanya confirmed in a letter to Premium Times that while Nnaji was admitted in 1981, he didn’t graduate.
“From every available record, we are unable to confirm that he graduated in July 1985. The university DID NOT and COULD NOT have issued the purported certificate,” he stated.
A Premium Times investigation found both Nnaji’s UNN and NYSC certificates were forged. His NYSC document was signed by a director who wasn’t in office in 1986 and listed a 13-month service that began before his supposed graduation.
UNN staff said he failed core courses and was advised to withdraw. His name was missing from the 1985 graduates’ list.
The revelation confirms that Nnaji, who claimed to hold a Biochemistry and Microbiology degree, never graduated and forged both certificates.
