Kenyan President William Ruto has condoled with Ruth Odinga, sister to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, during the burial ceremony of the veteran politician and pro-democracy icon.
The funeral, held on Sunday at the Odinga family’s homestead in Bondo, western Kenya, drew dignitaries, political leaders, and thousands of mourners who gathered to pay their last respects.
Raila Odinga, who served as Kenya’s Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013, was celebrated for his lifelong commitment to democracy, social justice, and national unity.
President Ruto, in an emotional moment, was seen embracing Ruth Odinga as he offered words of comfort to the grieving family. The President praised Odinga’s legacy, describing him as “a statesman whose contributions to Kenya’s democratic journey will never be forgotten.”
The late Odinga was laid to rest beside his family members in a ceremony marked by tributes, prayers, and songs honoring his decades of public service and resilience in Kenya’s political landscape.
