Tragedy has str¥ck the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) following the death of one of its senior officials, Mrs. Serifat Olubukola Talabi, just four days before her retirement and 60th birthday celebration.
Talabi, who served as Director of Procurement, reportedly died in a road accident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway after she was hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross the highway near the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Camp in the Ibafo area of Ogun State.
She had already sent out invitations for a combined Thanksgiving, Retirement, and 60th Birthday ceremony scheduled for October 22, 2025, at the NERDC Conference Centre in Ikeja, Lagos.
Confirming the incident, LASRRA expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Basirat Lawal, described Talabi’s death as a “huge loss,” noting that staff members were still in shock.
“She was in the office on Friday, and everything had been arranged for her retirement ceremony on October 22. She was supposed to retire on October 13, when she turned 60, but since our General Manager was away, it was postponed to October 22,” Lawal said. “The agency will be present at her burial.”
According to records, Talabi joined LASRRA in 2018 and rose through the ranks to become a Director in 2025. Colleagues described her as diligent, humble, and deeply committed to her duties until her final day in service.
