American DJ and producer Diplo has stirred conversation online after suggesting in a recent interview that he previously dated both pop star Katy Perry and Canadian Fmr. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The claim resurfaced just days after Perry and Trudeau confirmed their relationship publicly.
In a viral clip from an interview with journalist Nayeema Raza, Diplo was discussing Perry when he remarked, “Now Katy Perry is dating Justin Trudeau.” Raza acknowledged the news and asked whether he had dated Perry, then corrected herself to ask about Trudeau. Diplo responded, “Oh, I did date Trudeau too. That was a weird one though. Because I’m just… I’m not in the positions.”
Perry and Diplo were romantically linked in 2014, notably seen together at Coachella. Later, Perry ranked Diplo as the least favorable among her past partners—behind John Mayer and Orlando Bloom—during her Witness World Wide livestream with James Corden.
Perry’s new relationship with Trudeau has been attracting global attention since the pair were first photographed holding hands in Paris. They were later spotted vacationing on a yacht.
The singer is currently on The Lifetimes Tour, promoting her latest album 143, which debuted at number six on the US Billboard 200.
