Kwara Orders Closure of Schools in Four LGAs Over Rising Insecurity
The Kwara State Government has directed the shutdown of schools in four local government areas due to increasing security concerns in certain communities.
The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kwara State chapter, confirmed the directive on Wednesday.
In a circular obtained by Channels Television, NUT Chairman Yusuf Agboola stated that all schools in Isin, Irepodun, Ifelodun, and Ekiti LGAs are to close immediately, following instructions from the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development.
Agboola explained that the closure is a response to renewed security threats in Kwara South and is aimed at safeguarding students and staff.
“Comrade chairmen, please inform all schools in the mentioned local governments to close with immediate effect until further notice. This action is due to prevailing security challenges and the government’s efforts to manage the situation. Treat this notice with urgency as it comes directly from the ministry,” the circular read.
He added that school heads and teachers would receive further updates as the situation develops.
