G¥nmen Att+ck Ngige’s Convoy, Disrobe Police Escort in Anambra State
G¥nmen reportedly att+cked the convoy of former Labour Minister and ex-Governor of Anambra State, Chris Ngige, along the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North Local Government Area. According to Sir Fred Chukwuelobe, Ngige’s former media aide, the ex-minister was not in the convoy at the time of the att+ck.
The assailants allegedly sh%t a policeman attached to the convoy and seized his gun and uniform. Confirming the incident, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said a manhunt has been launched for the fleeing att+ckers.
Ikenga added that the white Mercedes-Benz SUV initially taken by the criminals was later recovered after a coordinated police operation. “A combined team of police tactical operatives, including the Rapid Response Squad and the Special Anti-Cultism Unit, pursued the armed att+ckers. During the chase, the convoy aligned with the operatives, exchanged fire with the hoodlums, and forced them to abandon the vehicle,” Ikenga stated.
One police officer sustained a minor g¥nshot inj¥ry but is stable and receiving medical treatment. The recovered SUV has been secured for further investigation, while police continue a state-wide manhunt for the suspects.
Authorities assured the public that updates on the operation and investigation would be provided as they become available.
