Senate Summons Aviation Minister, Keyamo, Over Surging Domestic Airfares
The Senate has summoned the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, along with major industry stakeholders, for an urgent meeting following nationwide outr+ge over the sharp rise in domestic flight prices.
The decision followed a motion raised by Senator Buhari Abdulfatai, who warned that the escalating fares thr+aten national mobility and could lead to widespread travel disr¥ptions in the coming days.
Leading the debate, Senator Buhari noted that Nigerians have been voicing growing frustration as domestic airfare costs continue to soar.
According to him, a one-way ticket from Abuja to Lagos now ranges between N400,000 and N600,000, a price many citizens simply cannot afford.
He stressed that the situation is even more troubling given increasing insecurity and difficulty on major highways, leaving travelers with fewer safe alternatives.
“We need to invite stakeholders of our airline agencies to interact and interrogate the issues. Immediate steps must be taken before the festive period,” he said.
