The Lagos State Taskforce on Tuesday apprehended 32 members of the group known as ‘Omotaku’ during a coordinated enforcement operation across major roads on both the Island and Mainland.
The suspects were reportedly arrested for causing public nuisance, obstructing traffic illegally, and end@ngering motorists. The operation followed repeated complaints from residents about youths harassing drivers and creating safety risks on key highways.
Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, Director of Public Affairs for the Lagos State Taskforce, explained that the raid targeted hotspots including Apongbon, Fadeyi, Jibowu, Yaba Phase 1, Lagos Island, Palmgrove, Ojuelegba, Surulere, and surrounding areas. He said operatives observed suspects stopping articulated vehicles, petroleum tankers, trucks, trailers, lorries, and private cars, posing serious traffic and safety hazards.
During the operation, some of the arrested individuals were found smoking substances suspected to be hard drugs and Indian hemp. The arrests were made for violations of the Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018 and the Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.
Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, affirmed the agency’s commitment to rid Lagos of miscreants, stating that all corners of the state would be combed to bring offenders to justice. The operation restored order in the affected areas, and all 32 suspects have been charged to court.
