Impeachment: Allegation against Fubara not tenable – Ukeji
Spokesperson of Citizens for Good Governance in Democracy, Ben Ukeji, has said that the allegation on Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State of non-submission of budget to the State Assembly is not tenable.
Ukeji stated this on Thursday while responding to questions in an interview on ‘Prime Time’, a programme on Arise Television
He said, “When you look at it, even as from all the arguments, Section 122 of the Nigeria’s 1999 constitution (as amended), provides that the governor has the responsibility or the right to spend a portion of the budget for a period of six months.
“The budget they are talking about in the entire administration of Fubara is the budget of 2025, and his tenure was truncated by the declaration of a state of emergency.”
The State Assembly on Thursday began impeachment proceedings against Fubara over several issues, among which is the alleged non-submission of budget to the State Assembly.
