The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the interim forfeiture of 57 properties linked to former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN. Justice Emeka Nwite granted the order to the Federal Government following an ex-parte application by EFCC counsel, Ekele Iheanacho, SAN, citing suspicions that the assets are proceeds of unlawful activities.

The properties, spanning Abuja, Kebbi, Kano, and Kaduna, include luxury hotels, duplexes, shopping plazas, warehouses, and residential estates. Notable holdings include a N5.95 billion Maitama duplex, a two-winged building in Garki formerly Harmonia Hotels, and Meethaq Hotels Ltd in Jabi and Maitama. Other assets cover terraces in Asokoro, residential units in Gwarimpa, Apo Legislative Quarters, Wuse II, and commercial spaces in Wuse Market, Vegas Mall, and Shariff Plaza.
Justice Nwite ordered the publication of the interim forfeiture in a national newspaper, inviting any interested party to contest within 14 days. The case is adjourned to later in January for a compliance report submission.

The forfeiture proceedings run parallel to a criminal trial where Malami, his wife Bashir Asabe, and son Abubakar Abdulaziz face N8.7 billion money laundering charges. EFCC alleges they engaged in suspicious financial activities and property acquisitions between 2015 and 2025 to conceal illicit funds. One count accuses Malami and his son of hiding over N1 billion through Metropolitan Auto Tech Limited between 2022 and 2025.
The interim order places the assets under government control pending final determination. Malami continues to deny wrongdoing and was granted N500 million bail on Wednesday.
