Tinubu Considers Dogara, Musa, Mutfwang, and Kukah as Northern Christian Running Mate for 2027

Political insiders say President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is quietly considering four northern Christian leaders as potential running mates for the 2027 presidential election.

Media reports have named former Speaker Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Defence Minister Lt-Gen. Christopher Musa (retd), Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, and Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah as the top contenders within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sources say Tinubu’s team is evaluating these options as part of a strategy to balance religion and regional representation, with all the potential candidates coming from predominantly Christian northern states. Analysts note that, under the 1999 Constitution, the APC presidential candidate can select a running mate from any region.

The renewed speculation comes amid criticism of the Muslim–Muslim ticket in the 2023 elections, which drew scrutiny domestically and internationally.
