The Rivers State Government has officially opened the Dr. Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Disease Diagnostic and Treatment Centre, a state-of-the-art specialized hospital located along Ikwerre Road, Rumuokwuta, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
The facility, which was constructed by Julius Berger Plc under the administration of former Governor, Nyesom Wike, was commissioned on November 14, 2022, but remained unused for over three years.

Its reopening marks a major milestone in the state’s healthcare delivery system.
The Dr. Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Disease Diagnostic and Treatment Centre is expected to evolve into a major hub for medical tourism in the Niger Delta and beyond.
Designed as a purpose-built facility for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, cardiovascular and renal diseases, the centre offers advanced medical services including chemotherapy and nuclear medicine.
The facility serves as a regional focal point for comprehensive chronic disease care and boasts a total of 72 bed spaces.

This includes a specialized 10-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Coronary Care Unit (CCU), equipped with four critical care isolation cubicles specifically designed for immunocompromised patients.
Among its notable features is a fully equipped pathology laboratory and a modern radiology department.
The centre also houses two fully functional operating theatres and a catheterization laboratory (Cath lab), fitted with advanced diagnostic imaging equipment for the visualization of arteries and heart chambers, enabling the detection and management of cardiovascular conditions.

Further enhancing its oncology services, the hospital has a 13-chair chemotherapy department, which includes four exclusive VIP isolation cubicles.
The facility also contains eight dedicated doctors’ consulting rooms for both inpatient and outpatient services, as well as an outpatient department featuring two procedure rooms and two examination cubicles.
