A Nigerian mother, Titilayo Oluwakemi Oyekanmi, and her three sons — Samuel (18), Joseph (14), and Genesis (5) — have been deported from Dublin to South Africa after their asylum application and appeal were rejected.
Oyekanmi had relocated to Ireland from South Africa, citing heightened xenophobic att@cks against Nigerians. Authorities issued a deportation order last year after their asylum request was denied and their appeal failed, sparking protests by schoolchildren, neighbours, and supporters outside Ireland’s Department of Justice.

Speaking about the deportation, Oyekanmi told the Irish Independent: “Samuel, my first son, is preparing for his Leaving Cert. Taking him out at this stage of his life is going to affect his life and his future, which makes me cry.” She added, “I want my children to be happy, because we had to run away from thr£ats to our lives in South Africa. We escaped k+dn@pping. That same boy that escaped that k+dn@pping, now they want to send him back to that same country.”

Despite public outcry, the justice department confirmed that 63 people, including nine children, were deported on a charter flight from Dublin Airport, accompanied by members of An Garda Síochána, medical staff, an interpreter, and a human rights observer.
