We’ve A Minister In The Present Government That Seems To Specialise In Corrupting Some Judges-Aliyu

In a recent interview with Daily Independent on Thursday, March 12, 2026, ‎Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu, former governor of Niger State, has raised concerns about corruption in the judiciary, stating that judicial officers accept favors because people offer them.

‎He warned that this creates a serious risk for the integrity of the system and explained that while not all judges are involved, there are instances where outside influences affect decisions.

He stressed that society should not blame all judicial officers, but people must pay close attention to cases of corruption and pointed to a minister in the current government who appears to specialise in influencing judges improperly.

‎He stated that this shows that corruption can come from powerful figures and not just minor actors, he believes that exposing these actions is important to protect the credibility of the judiciary.

‎He called for vigilance from both the public and institutions and stated that corruption in the judiciary undermines trust in the legal system and democracy, if people see that judges can be influenced by favors, it creates doubt about fairness in the courts.

‎Aliyu noted that the problem is not just limited to one individual or case and warned that the society must be careful and not generalize, but also not ignore signs of misconduct, monitoring and accountability are key to keeping the judiciary independent.

‎”The judicial officers buy because people offer them something. We have a minister in the present government that seems to specialise in corrupting some judges so we need to be careful so that we don’t blame all of them at a go but we need to pay attention also to what is happening in that direction,” he said.
