Police in Kenya have apprehended a man suspected of masterminding a brutal acid att@ck on his 24-year-old former girlfriend, Mary Claire.
Preliminary reports indicate that the suspect, identified as Elvis Opiro, allegedly hired an a§§ailant to carry out the att@ck. Mary was ambushed on her way home and doused with a corrosive substance, leaving her with severe facial inj¥ries.

Passersby quickly intervened, cornering the a§§ailant as he tried to escape. An angry mob confronted him before police took control and arrested him. He is now in police custody at Kibera Police Station, with investigations ongoing.
Mary Claire is currently receiving specialized care at Kenyatta National Hospital, where she is battling for her life.

It was reported that in November last year, Claire had previously reported Opiro after an earlier a§§ault, but no action was taken to apprehend him at the time.
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko confirmed the arrest on Sunday, March 22, stating that authorities “laid a trap” which led to Opiro’s capture.
