Kwankwaso has agreed to be Peter Obi’s running mate - Ibrahim Abdulkarim

A political ally of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, has revealed that former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has agreed to serve as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

The disclosure was made by Ibrahim Abdulkarim during a television interview. Politics Nigeria reports that he spoke on Trust TV.

According to him, talks between both camps have progressed beyond speculation.

Abdulkarim said there is already a clear understanding between the two political figures. He stated, “yes, I can categorically tell you that they have agreed”.

He added that supporters on both sides are not in the dark. According to him, “We all know that. Both the Obidients and the Kwankwassiyya Movements are aware of the agreement”.

The development signals a possible alliance between two strong political blocs. The Obidient Movement gained nationwide attention during the last election cycle. The Kwankwassiyya Movement also commands a solid base, especially in the North.

Political observers say such a merger could reshape the 2027 contest. It may also alter voting patterns across key regions. Both leaders have maintained large followings despite being outside the two major parties.

The report is coming shortly after Kwankwaso made a notable political move. He recently left the New Nigeria Peoples Party and joined the African Democratic Congress. His defection triggered fresh conversations across the political space.

Many analysts believe the move was strategic. It raised questions about possible negotiations ahead of the next general election. The latest confirmation appears to give weight to those speculations.

So far, there has been no official joint statement from Obi or Kwankwaso. However, insiders say consultations are ongoing. Party stakeholders are also said to be watching developments closely.

If confirmed, the alliance could become one of the biggest political coalitions heading into 2027. It would bring together southern and northern support bases under a single ticket.
