Footballers Make More Money Than Musicians — Singer Skales Stirs Debate
Nigerian singer Skales has stirred fresh debate online after boldly declaring that footballers earn far more consistently than musicians, even without being superstars.
Speaking during a recent interview where he was asked his opinion on a longstanding debate on who makes more money between Musicians and Footballers, Skales stated “Omo na football money o.” According to him, the gap between both industries is clear.
He explained that in football, you don’t have to be globally famous to make serious money. “You can just be a regular guy… they no dey bench you, and you go dey make money,” he said, emphasizing that steady performance alone guarantees financial stability.
In contrast, Skales described music as unpredictable and seasonal. “You can be up today, you can be down tomorrow, you just have to pray to God,” he added, noting that long-term relevance in the music industry often feels like “some divine thing.”
He gave props to artists who have managed to stay on top for years, calling their success rare. But when it comes to footballers, he insists the rules are different, “If you like no relevant, but just dey play well, you go cash out.”
The singer also hinted at the massive off-field earnings footballers enjoy, revealing a missed opportunity involving a luxury jewelry deal worth over $300,000 tied to a young football star.
“You can imagine things that we don’t know about, that’s a different kind of money, man,” he said.
Skales concluded by pointing out that only a few Nigerian artists truly reach that level of wealth, while many are still “putting one or twos together.”
