Political tensions in Rivers State have intensified following a high-profile visit by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, in Abuja.
The meeting, held on Tuesday at the APC chairman’s residence, has sparked widespread speculation across Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly because of its timing and the ongoing crisis involving Rivers State politics.
According to Daily Post, observers believe it may be connected to the escalating political struggle in Rivers State, where Governor Siminalayi Fubara is currently facing mounting pressure.

Recent developments suggest renewed friction between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, as loyalists of the governor allegedly suffered setbacks during a recent screening process for the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Reports indicate that several aspirants aligned with Fubara were disqualified, fueling fears of a broader political strategy aimed at weakening his influence.
The situation has also raised concerns about Fubara’s political future, with speculations circulating that he could face obstacles in securing a platform for re-election under the APC structure.
Wike, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but serves in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, has previously made strong remarks suggesting that Fubara’s return to power is unlikely.

Political analysts suggest that the latest meeting with the APC leadership could signal deeper realignments ahead of future elections in Rivers State.
However, neither Wike nor the APC chairman has issued an official statement clarifying the purpose or outcome of the discussion.
As the political atmosphere in Rivers continues to heat up, stakeholders are watching closely to see how the power struggle between Wike and Fubara will ultimately shape the state’s political direction.
