Owo Church Att@ck: We Will Appeal D+ath Sentence Verdict — Defendant Counsel, Abdullah Mohammed

The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced four members of the Al-Shabaab t+rrorist group to d+ath by hanging over their involvement in the June 5, 2022 att@ck on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State. One other suspect was discharged and acquitted.

Delivering judgment, the court found the three defendants guilty of participating in the d+adly a§§ault, while the fourth defendant was acquitted.

However, defence counsel, Abdullahi Mohammad, expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling and confirmed plans to challenge it at a higher court.

“We are appealing it. You brought three people on the same count, then you removed one and left others where is it done? If you want to carry them along you carry them and if you want to release them then release them together,” he said.

He added, “We are not satisfied with this result.”
